Judith H. Vlasek

Commissioner Vlasek has a bachelor of arts degree from Southern Illinois University and a master of science degree in journalism from the University of Kansas, where she graduated with honors. She was a professional journalist for many years, covering businesses and various city and county governments for national, regional and local publications in Kansas City, Tampa, Detroit, Dallas and Houston. She ended her career as a correspondent for the Houston Chronicle.

She grew up in a family that spent many hours boating, swimming, water skiing and fishing so she was struck with Aransas County’s natural beauty, prompting her to move south of Rockport in 2002. She has since been involved in numerous volunteer and civic activities, including more than eight years as president of the City by the Sea Homeowners Association, as well as several years on the Citizens for Responsible Annexation board of directors and on the Aransas County Stormwater Management Advisory Council.

As a commissioner her focus has been on legislative, legal and personnel issues in addition to helping shape leasing policies at Cove Harbor, which is in her precinct.
